The Road to Hell is....

Every time I get back into the whole blog thing I say to myself,"OK. This time we'll make it work. This time I intend to stick to this and write my thoughts, current events, etc." Of course my resolve only last about as long as one or two posts, then I'm outta here again. Then the next time I promise myself, "OK this time, post something everyday, even if you have nothing to post about." Unfortunately that seems to be the gist of just about every post. It's seems ironic that part of my blogs name, "Why Am I In Here? Because I've got something to say," is a lie. I don't like lying. I really don't. So I resolve again to post something everyday in an effort to making this a habit. Then maybe something will come out that I never knew I had in me.
Someone once told me that it takes 21 days to make a habit and 21 days to break one. Thing is, can you really make this a habit? I mean aren't habits things like biting your nails, or drinking too much coffee(which I do). I can't imagine that this could become a real habit because habits are the things that when we can't do them, we go a little batty. You know? I mean I can't see myself having the DT's the next time the power goes out and I can't post anything for a few days. That I think is why not posting is an easy habit for me to have. I feel shame for making plans to post my thoughts on the web, then not having thoughts to post, and then not posting anything at all. As far as I can tell that is a habit, because every other habit I have(just about) brings me shame. I guess not the good habits, saying please and thank you, opening Kaleigh's door when we get in the car(I would open it for her to get out but she's too fast for me and one time hit me with the door.) So I guess I will just keep popping in from time to time to look around and say nothing in particular.

I will share this before I go. Yesterday we(not the royal we but Kaleigh, Little Buddy and I) went and saw the new Chris Guest movie For Your Consideration which was for the most part a good movie with a somewhat sad ending. Anyway, the part I want to talk about was the guy who came with his parents and sat behind us. I think he was somewhere between 19 and 22 years old. Not any older than that, and since I'm the only one who got a look at him K and LB aren't much help in determining his age. The thing about this guy was that when he laughed really hard, it was absurd. I mean the laugh. Not that it took something absurd to make him laugh, since sometimes he laughed for no reason at all.
I have heard some bad laughter before. Some annoying, make you want to hit something/one laughter, but this guy takes the cake. It was loud, long, and high pitched. At first I thought that it was a joke, or that the guy was making fun of people who liked the Chris Guest movies. I quickly realized that no, that was indeed the way this ridiculous boy laughed. That's when I figured out what was really going on. He was there with his parents, who love him but know that his laugh is ridiculous. They can't say anything to him because when you are a parent you can't really tell your child, "Hey, when you laugh it makes dogs commit suicide." You just can't say that sort of thing to your kid. Sooo, what do you do? Easy, take your kid to a movie where they are sure to laugh, and hopefully laugh a lot. For these parents no problem(as I have said he laughed at stuff that wasn't funny at all). Then make sure you sit near some people preferable someone like Larry David who will have the ability to turn to your child and say something like, "What's going on back there? Are you having some sort of fit? I mean seriously a laugh like that could be used as a weapon. If you ever need some information from someone and they won't speak up just take this guy in the room and make him laugh for about five minutes. There's your information end of story."
Something along those lines. The best things is as a parent you can take these opportunities to help your child. "Sweetie, don't listen to what that man said. Your laugh isn't that bad, but maybe if it would make you feel more comfortable, you could learn to laugh a little more on the inside." You can sooth the hurt feelings while getting the job done. This is what I believe the parents of this guy where trying to do, but I am no Larry David. I bet the next thing they try is to get him to start smoking. Not because they want him to get sick, but to try and deepen the sound of that laugh. Make it a lower tone so that at least bats don't attack his mouth anymore.

Huh, how about that. I had something to say after all. On that note,

On This Date In History:
November 27, 1746 marks the birth of Robert R. Livingston, jurist, statesman, and political leader of the Revolutionary period. Livingston served on numerous committees in the Continental Congress, including the one that drafted the Declaration of Independence, helped draft New York's first constitution, and served as the minister to France at the time of the Louisiana Purchase.

No Gnus is Good Gnus

I have been running over in my mind what, if anything I should blog about today. I started to think I would keep a journal of things that happened during my day, but I work on computers, what's fun about that? Of course yesterday the network went down at the high school. Took us three hours to find the problem. Not a lot of interest there. Kaleigh and little buddy suggested that I start writing stories as scripts. I thought about using this to write the screenplay for a movie I call Between The Lines. It's a story about parking lot painters. I think it could be a dark comedy. I would use this to get the buzz going, but right now it's just an idea, and ideas can be stolen. Ho hum. Time to make the donuts, and by make the donuts I mean clean the apartment before it's filled to capacity.

One more thing:
On This Date In History
On Friday, November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was shot as he rode in a motorcade through the streets of Dallas, Texas. At his death, the 35th president was 46 years old and had served less than three years in office. During that short time, Kennedy and his young wife, Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, became immensely popular both at home and abroad.

I was just talking to my Father In Law about this because it's his birthday today too.

New Look for 2007

Ok so I know it's not 2007 yet, but in two days this blog will be a year old. So in keeping with the idea of upgrades and what not I'm giving this blog a face lift.

So look around. New content will be added shortly. I have to put back my links to things that I enjoy. Homestar Runner, NPR, etc. I may even add a link to my "myspace" page, but I can't right now because we have that blocked at work. Long story.

Lastly,
On This Date In History:
November 21, 1789, North Carolina ratified the Constitution to become the twelfth state in the Union. The vote came approximately two hundred years after the first white settlers arrived on the fertile Atlantic coastal plain.

How about that? Oh and Little Buddy,

One Year On The Net!!

So I started this just about a year ago.
Wow where has the time gone. I have figured out that since I started this blog I have traveled to 20 of the 50 states, and 2 of our territories (Puerto Rico and St. Croix). I am now working for a school system in St. Clair County(mentioned in an earlier Blog. Took some time but the blanket finally covered me.)
So what does the next year have in store. Well with a freshly elected Congress ready to make real changes in our country who knows. Sorry I had to make that joke.(They won't change anything, they are all members of the same country clubs and lobbyist groups people. Wake up!)
Anyway, our first thanksgiving together as man and wife is set to be busy in that we are both working part time jobs, me at Barnes and Nobles, Kaleigh at Banana Republic. However, we are both off on Thanksgiving day as it should be(Thank you Mr. Lincoln. Read a history book, you'll know what I mean.)
Well it's not long before a new year. Can you believe that 2006 is almost over? It's amazing. Looking forward to whats to come. Maybe I'll resolve to work on this blog more. Thing is, when you work on computers all day long, the last thing you end up spending your time doing is blogging. Maybe I'll start a "On This Date In History" blog filled with mundane facts that are of little use to the anyone. At least then I could get my history fix before starting a day of "No I said 'right' click."
Peace out bloggers and broseph,

"WHAT,WHAT!"

God Lord! Where have I been?

That's a good question. Where have I been? Well I think that since the last time I put anything up here I have been all around the country and to the Virgin Islands. And oh yeah, I got married. So how about that. I don't think I'll add much here. I was checking out Erin's blog the other day and I remembered to come in here and check things out, you know change the picture and what not. But the fact is, I don't have anything to add. And turns out that if you spend 8 hours a day on a damn computer, often times when you get home, the last thing you want o do is get back on another damn computer to edit a blog no one reads. Interesting isn't it. Well tomorrow is the big 31 for me. And there was much rejoicing. OK. I'm done. Unless of course work continues to be boring. BTW, new job, no travel, three gray walls, I hate cubicals.

Long time no post.

The wedding plans are moving along. We have picked out the Tuxedos and have ordered all the bridesmaids dresses. It's almost here. We are at 89 days and counting.

You know I sit here and I am trying for the life of me to think of something interesting to write about, but I got nothing.

We just came from a dinner party at my parents house and there was a person there I have known most of my life and I just keep thinking about a story he told of how he saved the life a man and his son while hiking in the Grand Canyon.
It's a really moving story and he tells it with complete modesty. He leads hiking trips all the time through there and last summer he and his crew came across a man lying in the sun with his 9 year old son sitting and just crying.

The boy told Tim -the guy who told the story- that another hiking party had just gone by and left them there. Tim said he had obviously been crying for sometime when they came accross them. Tim explained that many times when hiking out there, if you are having problems that last thing you can do is take on more problems. None the less, Tim and his group decided to help.
The dad was a paramedic and knew his vital signs were bad so he told Tim to just leave him there and get his son out. Tim told the guy that he was going to get him into some shade, cool him down and then they were going to get him out of there.
They were at the bottom of something called the Devil's Corkscrew, because of the lack of shade on the way up. So Tim point to some shade way off in the distance and told the dad, "We going to get you out of here, but your going to have to make it to that shade up there, and then you can rest again.
Then Tim strapped the dad's backpack to his, and they started up. He said that the little boy started running in circles around him and one of the other members of his team as they made their way up the hill. The little boy was just so happy that someone was helping them, he couldn't stop running around. It made Tim tired just to watch him. He said as they were going up the hill that the boy reminded him more and more of a little Robby Naylor. I said that in 20 years that he'd slow down.
Long story short, well too late for that, but here's the end. They made it. The dad, the boy, everyone. It's much more amazing to hear Tim tell it. The last thing I tell you was something the little boy told Tim. He said that when the first group left them that he started praying, and he prayed harder than he ever had before. "Harder than the time my mom told me to pray to decide what school to go too." Then the boy said that as soon as he finished his prayer, Tim and his crew came around the corner and he knew they were going to be ok.

It's really something. The nicest thing about hearing Tim tell this story was just how humble he was. Not telling it to make himself look better, just to make God look better.

Sorry if this was too preachy for any of you. It was just a moving story and I wanted to share.

See you next time.

Here we are again. So this past week I was lucky enough to be working in Pell City AL which is less than 50 miles from Birmingham so I was able to stay with Kaleigh and drive back and forth, AND I can claim the mileage for work.

However, something rotten did happen this week. Someone backed into the front of my car, damaging the bumper and scraping the paint on the hood and of course left no information at all for me to contact them.

So let me say this to you all. I will for the rest of my life make sure that if I hit someone's parked car that I will leave them a note. Now that note may just say, "I'm just leaving a note in case someone saw me hit your car. Sorry Sucker." But most likely I will leave my name and number for them to call.

I have hit a parked car before and I waited for the owners and came clean. They were so impressed, and the damage so minimal that they told me to just go on my way. I would like to think that if someone hit me and it wasn't much I would let it go, but I would also like the opportunity to let them off the hook. So if any of you have any leads let me know.

Off to Maryland.

Where have I been?

If any of you have viewed this and wondered why I haven't updated in so long, well it's hard to update a blog when you're never in the same place for more than a few nights.

OK. So I'm on my second solo trip for Televox, and my second trip to the North East. This time the Empire state, but not close enough to make it to The City. Right now I am sitting in a hotel room in Buffalo, NY and let me tell you. It's truely as wonderful as everyone says. Wait, do people say that it's wonderful? I can't say that I've ever heard anything about Buffalo.

Well in that case I'll talk about my trip to Connecticut.

You see a lot of strange things when you're on the road. To date, Kenny G and his family, a mother with a lip ring and huge rods through her ears, and then there's New England.

I plan to get a digital soon. There are just somethings you have to see to believe.

Tomorrow it's off to Albany.

Saturday, December 31, 2005

Back from the great white north.

I just completed my first trip for TeleVox and let me tell you, well I have no idea what to tell you. I don't think it would have been as interesting if I had been traveling alone. I was traveling with one of the other 50/50 guys, Louis Hitt who knew the area very well.

So one day in Seattle, and two in the Oakland/San Francisco Area. Didn't get to see too much, but I did get to ride over the San Francisco Bay bridge and we ate at the best sushi place I've ever been to called Sushi Sam's. It was awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone going to that area.

Well one more thing and then I have to run. I saw Kenny G and his family in the Seattle airport going some where out of the country. Now those of you who know me know that from time to time I see someone who looks like a celebrity and claim that it was actually that person for a fact. This time it was the real deal. Kenny G himself. I didn't approach him, but I know it was him.

The funniest thing about it was that all I could hear in my head one Norm McDonald's quip from SNL's Weekend Update years ago. It went like this:"Kenny G just released a new album in time for Christmas. Happy birthday Jesus, hope you like crap." Needless to say I think I would have just said something stupid if I had tried to meet him. Besides he was with his family, and he was a cool guy. They went through security like everyone else, even though his kids were complaining because someone told them that they didn't have too. He didn't want to be treated any differently and that's cool.

I guess it was bad that I had the urge to run up to him and say, "Hey aren't you Michael Bolton?"

Peace out.

Here is a picture of the Naylor clan, plus one, that was taken by my Aunt Becky. I promised that we would put it on the blog so that she could see it and subsequently save it to her computer as well so that she can see our lovely faces all the time!! ***Right click on the picture, Beck. Then choose "Save As" and save it wherever you want on your computer!*** We hope everyone had a very safe and Merry Christmas. To me, it seemed to come and go more quickly than usual. I guess I'm just getting older. ;) Well, that's all for now. Tomorrow I have to leave for Seattle, Washington for work (which I am not at all pleased about) so I think I will take the rest of the evening to relax before the long, long week ahead.

And So This is Christmas.

You know it never really seems like Christmas to me unless I hear that sound. And even though this year I haven't heard it from beginning to end, I saw that in today's paper they decided to print the whole song.
Close enough.

Well I won't take up much of your time this fine Christmas morning. I wish it was colder, probably going to be be in the high 50's today, but that's Christmas in Alabama.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

Monday, December 19, 2005

I think I have just about finished my Christmas shopping. I was in Target tonight with Kaleigh and we were gathering last minute gifts and the like, when all of a sudden blackness. Complete and total darkness.

I take it as a sign from God that if I haven't bought your present yet, I ain't gonna. Well that's not entirely true, but I am very close to being done. And for me to be done this far from Christmas is a miracle. Wow, my first Christmas miracle.

If you are expecting something from me and haven't suggested anything yet, you better log something on here. Otherwise I hope you like socks.

OH GOD! IT'S CHRISTMAS AGAIN!

I know this because last year The Playhouse (In the Park) performed Scrooge, so that's why we're doing Babes In Toyland right now. That's right I said we. I am portraying the Master Toymaker again after a nine year hiatus. Imagine my excitement. Actually it has been a little fun. Mainly because we are performing at the Saenger Theatre and we have had packed school performances. I got on stage in front of nearly 2000 people today. Same as yesterday, and twice tomorrow. It's sort of overwhelming at first. But mostly it's exhausting. Of course I have lost my voice since the show started, being a master toymaker can wear you out. But I just keep plugging along. We all do. I have to admit that one of the most satisfying parts is having my own dressing room. I only hope that one day I will get discovered and asked to perform for large audiences all over the world.
I just hope it's something other than Babes In Toyland

Quick and simple. I didn't get the job. What's new?

Saturday, December 03, 2005

So I had a job interview with a school system in North Alabama. I'll refrain from mention which one right now, until I hear something. Which they told me that I will, come Friday. I was a pretty good interview I think. I was comfortable and had a great rapport with them. Of course it doesn't hurt when you have a personal connection with the people conducting the interview. Still I have to keep my fingers crossed.

One thing about the drive up and back that was particularly satisfying was that I finally get the blanket. Don't worry I will elaborate. I always do.

The blanket is a reference to one of my all time favorite movies, I Heart Huckabees. Kaleigh and I love it. I won't tell you too much, other than to rent it or buy it. However I will try to explain "the blanket." In the movie Dustin Hoffman's character explains to Jason Schwartzman's that everything in the universe is like a big blanket. No matter where you are, you are connected to another part of the blanket. In simple terms we are connected to everyone in the world, even if we have never met them. Isn't that cool?! Someone 10000 miles away sneezes and that sends some dust into the air. That dust flies out a window and gets carried on the wind to a bird. That bird flies south and the wind blows that dust off that bird and it slowly lands somewhere near me. I sneeze because of the dust and it just keeps going. It's a scary and wonderful thought all at once. I stop at a crosswalk a little longer than necessary to let someone pass. They get to their car and feel good because of the kindness I've just shown them. They fly across the globe and get off the plane in a good mood because the kindness I started grew in them along the way. They do something nice for someone where they are now and now the kind act I started has made it around the world. Why? Because in some how everything we do effects the lives of others. Like I said, scary and wonderful.

The blanket means that we are all connected. However, there is one caveat to this thought. If we are all connected why can't I fix everything? Why can't I really do one nice act and pass that around the world? Simple. Not everyone knows about that blanket and some who do, choose to ignore it.

So here's the challenge. Think about your part of the blanket universe. Do something nice for someone. Do something nice for the planet. Do something nice for a dog. Do something for someone or something other than yourself. For some it's an easy challenge at first. You think you do that all the time. I'm talking about something you wouldn't normally do. Something surprising to yourself. That's the challenge. Good Luck. I know I'm going to need it.

So today. What a day. So many things.
First of all how many people out there knew that Fox was canceling Arrested Development?
I just found out a few nights ago and I am pissed. I can not believe the idiots over there at Fox. So I have a plan that involves everyone. OK so first we all need to email Fox and let them know our disgust. Then email as many companies as you can and tell them that you are boycotting Fox until they bring back AD. I'm talking about any company that buys air time on Fox. That's the only way to stop this. If Coke thinks we aren't watching Fox, even if it's just on Monday nights, then they will cut back on ads they purchase for that night. IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE! At least it's worth a try.

There were some other things that happened today that have me pissed off, and one thing that has me scarred for life (no joke, I felt part of me die) but I'm going to keep those to myself.

Just join the cause people. We must save Arrested Development. Because if we don't have the distraction from what really matters in this world, we may have to start facing the things that effect us on meaningful levels. Who wants that?

Saturday, November 26, 2005

I think it is worth posting on here the date that Kaleigh and I are getting married. Partly because my father was telling everyone the wrong date and partly because it's the biggest thing going on in my life right now.
That seems a bit girlie I know, but when your wedding day is just over six months away, there is little else you can think of. Especially when you can't wait for that day to come so you can be with the one you love all the time. Enough. I am a man. I don't like sports, or cars, but I am still a man.
Anyway, the actual day of the wedding is June 9th, 2006. It's a Friday wedding, and the wedding will be at Trinity Episcopal with the reception at Blacksher Hall. That is the old ShrinersÂ’ hall but it's been restored by a very nice lady. She and her husband returned it to look like it did back in the early 1900's. So if you're in here, and you feel certain that you will get an invite, you might want to keep that date open.
On another note we have planned our Honeymoon to be in . We had thought of something like Jamaica, but we both just love Disney so much that we decided to spend a week there and then head to Miami and see Jason, Rhonda, my boy Jake. I know some of you may not want to call Jacob by the nickname Jake and that's fine. He's my godson; I will call him Jake if I want to. That is of course unless Rhonda says otherwise.

196 days till June 9th. Getting cracking people! We need gifts!

Thursday, November 24, 2005

So we have made it through another Thanksgiving. It's 10 p.m. and we have just finished the day. I haven't stopped since 9 this morning.
My father insisted on playing a tape of me leaving a voicemail on my aunt's machine telling her that she wasn't really a nun. I must admit that it is one of the funnier things I've done in my life, but I did it over two years ago.
Now I don't mind him wanting to share it with his family, nor does it bother me that they liked hearing it. However, this has to be at least the third or fourth time that he has taken it to a family function. He of course doesn't remember that, which would be cause for alarm in that it might be an indication of age. Yet there is no need to worry because he doesn't remember playing this tape last year and the year before for these people, because these people don't remember either! I guess I could be looking at this all wrong. Many people spend hours trying to make their families laugh over and over again and have to come up with new material. I left one funny answering machine message three years ago and it's still getting air time. I should probably leave on a high note.

That's it. I'm outta here. You've been great.

Thanksgiving 2005
We hope everyone is having a happy Thanksgiving! We will be running around like turkeys with our heads cut off, but isn't that what holidays are all about?
